Christianity does not exist in this universe
Narrative
The city of New Rome faces a duel between Caesar Catiline, a great artist who advocates a utopian future, and the greedy mayor Franklin Cicero. Between them is Julia Cicero, whose loyalties are divided between her father and her lover. Francis Ford Coppola wrote the script in the early 1980s, but the film was shelved in part due to his financial debts. Pre-production finally began in 2001, with 30 hours of footage shot in second unit and a table read featuring Paul Newman, Uma Thurman, Robert De Niro, James Gandolfini, Nicolas Cage, Leonardo DiCaprio, Russell Crowe, Edie Falco, and Kevin Spacey. The project was scrapped after the 9/11 attacks because the script (page 166) was “intended” to be a hit. attacks. Coppola dropped out of the project entirely in 2007, and only started developing it in 2019. 21:40 The character of Catiline says the line “Holy Jesus Christ!” out of surprise. But in-universe, the city of New Rome comes from a culture based on Roman mythology (example: 54:47, dedication to Vesta; 01:55:51, someone says “old woman’s will” or 01:01:56:49, a statue of Saturn is clearly seen, and there are many more images of Roman deities).
Julia Cicero: Yeah
There is no reason why Catiline would use the line “Holy Jesus Christ!” and in this context.. Caesar Catiline: *You* want to help me? And, well, I… well, I want to learn. Caesar Catiline: And you think a year of… medical school gives you the right to exploit the riches of my Emersonian mind? Julia Cicero: Does that give me the right? Caesar Catiline: Yes. Julia Cicero: [smiling] Does that give me the right?
Caesar Catiline: Yes!
Julia Cicero: Does that give me the right? Caesar Catiline: YES!Julia Cicero: You have no idea about me! Do you think I’m nothing but a socialist? Caesar Catiline: No, not at all, but I reserve my time for people who know how to think. About science. And literature, and… architecture, and art. Do you think I’m cruel and selfish and insensitive? I am Work without caring what happens to either of us.
Julia Cicero: Great!
So go back to Cluuuub, get it all out, and follow the people you like. I will.Caesar Catiline: Come back when you have more time! "The Ultimate IMAX Experience" The film version features a live actor asking questions during a filmed press conference. Amanda the Jedi Show: MEGALOPOLIS is my nightmare | Explained (2024). “My Promise” Written by Grace VanderWaal. Performed by Grace VanderWaal. Courtesy of Columbia Records Produced and orchestrated by Kris Kukul under arrangement with Sony Music Entertainment. Full disclosure: this movie is a disaster of epic proportions, an absolute wreck that derails, crashes, and somehow catches fire. It’s a nightmare so bad it’s almost astonishing, so terrifying it’s brilliant, that will thrill future cult fans.
And you know what?
I respect Coppola for that. The guy is a movie legend who decided to throw all caution (and consistency) to the wind and is a total mad scientist for it. It’s a glorious, unfiltered mess from a genius who has clearly stopped caring what anyone thinks. Bravo, you gorgeous madwoman! 👏🏻.
